THE NATIONAL NEWS DESK: Mamdani, Cuomo in tight NYC mayoral race if Curtis Sliwa drops out: poll

by CHARLOTTE HAZARD | The National News Desk

New York City mayoral candidates Andrew Cuomo and Zohran Mamdani would be neck and neck if Republican candidate Curtis Silwa would drop out, according to a new poll.

The poll conducted by Gotham Polling and the city AARP, said that if Silwa were to drop out, Democratic candidate Mamdani would lead by 44.6% and Independent candidate Cuomo would be at 40.7%.

However, there would be almost a 15% group of people who would be undecided over the age of 50.

In August, Cuomo’s support among older voters increased by nine points.

As of now with all three candidates still in the race, Mamdani is leading his opponents by double digits, according to the New York Post.

Three of the top issues in the New York City gubernatorial race are cost of living, housing affordability and safety.

“The decisive factor in this race may be the older voters who haven’t yet made up their minds,” Gotham Polling and Analytics President Stephen Graves said in a statement.

“If the contest narrows to two leading candidates, the 50-plus electorate—by far the most reliable voting bloc—will likely determine who becomes the next mayor of New York City,” he continued.

The survey was conducted between Oct. 14-15 and polled 1,040 likely voters living in New York City.

The survey had a margin of sampling error of +/-4 percentage points and a 95% confidence level.
